November 2001

1) Thank you to all who attended, presented, displayed and enjoyed the conference in New Orleans. Thanks also to BE Radio, Radio Ink, BSW and Radio World for making their industry publications available.

2) Thanks and congratulations to the eight students broadcast teams from the seven stations participating in the radio booth on the exhibit floor along with sponsors Big World and LPB. We apologize that the cybercast did not happen, but one of our "professional" sponsors charged with the internet hookup failed to show up or communicate, but it didn't seem to affect the enthusiasm or the attention the booth attracted.

3) Congratulations to all finalists and winners in the student awards competition . As soon as the list is made available, it will be posted on the CBI (http://www.collegebroadcasters.org) web site.

4) Mark your calendars and budget now for 2002 conventions. In New York City (March 14-16) for a regional and next years National Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Kissimmee, Florida near Orlando October 31-November 2. More sessions and more station tours--we grow each year with your help.

5) Member stations will receive a mailing in the next few weeks listing student radio and TV award categories for the 2002 fall convention. If you are a member of CBI, you may submit the best your station has to offer in our national competition. Put your station up against the rest of the country!

6) Ideas presented on how to work better with music companies:

    - Set specific, consistent times for rep calls
-Only one person speaks for station for consistency
    - Be honest on charts & phone about what you play or what you think. Don’t just report those who called you last week.
    - Giveaways are for audience, not station members
    - Use e-mail to save phone costs
    - Want list—be prepared with info when asking for product
    - Thank you e-mails/cards or holiday cards (they have a boss to answer to also)
    - Logging incoming CD’s
    - Video Countdown Show
    - Meet & Greets
    - For campus events, have student goverment add interview clause in contract to avoid disputes or promises not kept.
