October 2002 CBI Newsletter

Only 3 weeks (or 21 days or 504 hours) until the national conference! Seminars, networking, fun and sun!

1) Again congratulations to all of our finalists in the CBI Student Production Awards (list available on the website collegebroadcasters.org). I hope you're taking advantage of the public relations opportunity and bragging about how good your station is to be one of the best in the country in a specific category. Talk about it on the air, send out press releases to the local media--all will enhance your station image.

2) Third quarter Issues/Programs list must be in your Public File today if you are an FCC licensed station.

3) Elections Coordinator Andy Marlow has received 27 election ballots as of this morning. That means 41 of you who received ballots have yet to return them. Deadline is October 15th so dig into that pile on your desk, find it and send it in.

4) The CBI Board will be working on several issues during the convention in planning for the coming year(s). If you have any concerns/suggestions/ideas you would like to see the organization address, tackle or correct--please let us know.

5) On a similar note, response has been less than overwhelming in our request for volunteers to coordinate various committees being developed within CBI (marketing, awards, election, convention entertainment, convention tours, etc.). The future of this organization cannot rest on the shoulders of the four Board members only. Faculty/Staff members all have plenty on their plate with their full-time jobs at their respective campuses and students with classwork and likely at least part-time jobs. But unless we are able to secure a team of people so the work on each is less, I am skeptical as to how far we may be able to take this organization. For those who have thrown their hat into the ring already--thank you. Please express your interest either before or at the conference to any Board member.

6) It may seem to some that the webcasting issue is all but done, but it is far from that. All of us need to stay on top of the seemingly daily changes and participate in the lobbying process as so many have indicated on the listserv. Will Robodee has been in Washington, D.C. over the past several days working on our behalf so please keep checking the website for updates on how you can further impact the proceedings.
