Welcome back for another academic year and welcome to all new and returning CBI members! Lots going on--but that's why you're a member... 1) The CBI Website (www.collegebroadcasters.org) has been updated with conference information, Save Our Streams links and much more. Please visit and give us your thoughts on how to make it even better. 2) The CBI/CMA/ACP conference is only 8 weeks away so book your room and register this week. On the schedule are three keynote addresses and hundreds of breakout sessions with over 60 dedicated to radio, television, advertising, leadership and new media--help with running your entire station instead of just one department. Not to mention the networking between your fellow media collegues (3,000 in all). More details on the website. 3) If your haven't already, please take the time to add a "SOS-Save Our Stream" link to your station website. And use the easy form on the website to fax your congressperson. Whether you are now streaming or someday want to, this issue needs your attention right away. Details on the website... 4) Nominations are open for the two faculty/staff and one student position on the CBI Board. Self-nominations are accepted. The two faculty/staff positions are two-year appontments, the student position for one year. Great way to build the resume....deadline to Elections Coordinator Andy Marlow is September 5th --elections via mail by the end of the month. Details on the web (this is a recording). 5) The first CBI National Student Production Awards contest ceremony will be held at the conference. Awards coordinator Chuck Bailey and the judges received dozens of entries in over 20 categories and did a great job coordinating. Judging took place this summer and the list of finalists in each category will be posted to this listserv and the website in the coming weeks. Also, the winners of the Scripps/Howard awards will be announced at the ceremony ($5,000 to the winner and $5,000 to their station). Thanks to all who entered and best of luck. 6) With new leaders in your organizations, now would be a good time to review the FCC self-inspection checklist available on the CBI website or agree to participate in a voluntary inspection program via your state Broadcaster's Association. 7) If you are receiving this and you or your organization are not yet a member of CBI---why not? Benefits:
We can only grow as fast as our member involvement allows. It's time...pick an area and let us know of your interest today. 8) Early bird reminder for FCC licensed stations: Issues/Programs list due in your public file by October 10th, 2002. 9) 57 Low Cost or No Cost PR Ideas as presented in detail at last year's convention. Ask for details if any needs an expalnation:
