May 2001

First, another thank you to John Devecka and LPB, Inc. for hosting our get-together in Las Vegas. I have notes written down and, as soon as I get get out from under all the projects I need to grade, I'll make my way through the list.

We did brainstorm a list of topic areas that need to be written for our on-line handbook. If any on this list have experience/expertise in an area and would like to tackle a section, please send me an e-mail. Some sections are larger than others, but they could be as small as a few pages as we get this started. Will has agreed to post on his web site. The idea was brought up also to secure our own web address and have it link directly to Will's site at Rice. I will investigate possible address names and if you have suggestions, pass them on..

Other items:

1) According to our by-laws, we will be holding election for the board this fall before the convention. There are four faculty and one student position. You can either nominate someone else to run for a position or self nominate. Though the by-laws state U.S. post only, Interim President Mike Black has said that e-mail responses are permissible as we get this off the ground.

We will elect 2 faculty positions to one year terms and 2 to two-year terms to get the board on the alternate year schedule. The student position is always a one-year term. After elections, the new board will decide who will fill each position.

If interested in a board position, we need to know by 5/31/01. If nominating someone else, please get their okay before submitting. Please submit intent to:
