March 2003 CBI Newsletter
1) Looking forward to seeing many of you in two weeks at the CMA/CBI
conference in New York City. 15 sessions exclusively on broadcasting
issues--all by industry professionals from some of the top media
companies--plus dozens more on leadership, motivating volunteers,
management and more. Not to mention access to tour the media hubs and
entertainment.
2) From the Legal Desk of Cary Tepper:
Station IDs must be made hourly, as close to the hour as possible, at a
natural break, Obviously stations receiving satellite programming feeds are more restricted in finding a "natural break" as compared to stations that originate their programming.
The station ID must consist of the station's call letters, immediately
followed by the community or communities listed on the station's
license. The name of the licensee, the channel of operation, and the frequency may be inserted between the call sign and the community -- but nothing else may be inserted there.
The station may also list additional communities in its ID, so long as
the actual community of license is mentioned first.
With respect to stations that do NOT broadcast 24 hours each day, a
legal ID must also be announced at the very beginning of the broadcast day, and at the conclusion of the broadcast day.
4) Pre-filing announcements must be aired April 1st and 16th if you are
an FCC licensed radio station in the District of Columbia, Maryland,
Virginia or West Virginia. Script is available in Section 73.3580
(d)(4)(i), page 327 of Code of Federal Regulations which should be in
your Public File. Keep a log and file report of exact times these
announcements aired for your Renewal File in your Public File as well.
5) At the New York conference, we will begin planning for our Fall
Conference November 6-9 in Dallas. If you have ideas for session
topics/speakers you would like to see, please let us know so we can
coordinate.
6) Several people on this listserv are planning to attend the NAB
convention in Las Vegas. Please post a note so we may be able to get
together.
7) We are running late, but be on the lookout for our second annual
Student Production Awards brochure in the coming weeks and be sure
you're saving all of the great work to submit from your station.
Nothing like being a national finalist or national winner to build the
resume and to help enhance your station image on campus.
Entry is free for all personnel at CBI stations, so return your
membership form that you received recently in the mail or print another
from our web site (collegebroadcasters.org).
